Bio-based lubricants are becoming increasingly important as a sustainable alternative to conventional lubricants. As part of this research project, an innovative enzymatic process for the production of trimethylolpropane esters (TMP esters) is being developed. The aim is to establish a resource-efficient and cost-effective manufacturing process for high-performance bio-based lubricant components.

The project focuses on the use of fatty acid-rich by-products from vegetable oil processing as a sustainable source of raw materials. The aim is to use an enzymatic process to produce high-quality TMP esters suitable for demanding lubricant applications. At the same time, suitable reactor designs as well as batch and continuous process operations are being investigated to enable energy- and cost-efficient production.

BECHEM is contributing its expertise in the development of high-performance lubricant formulations to the research project and is supporting the evaluation of the bio-based TMP esters produced with regard to their potential for high-performance industrial applications. The aim is to develop a sustainable lubricant technology that combines high performance with resource-efficient production.
